U.S. Attacks ISIS

What a surprise, were probably going to war again. Obama is planning an offensive attack to," get an Iraqi government in place". This reminds me of when the U.S and Russia would go to countries and try to either turn them into a communist and the U.S wanted to spread Democracy(The Cold war started about (1945-1991). Although the U.S wont admit to it but this may be just a plan to spread democracy in Iraq. Now were not attacking them for nothing of course, they have been killing innocent people due to their religion and ethnic backgrounds but they made a mistake and killed a U.S reporter. Thus they committed an act of terrorism and that is an act of war. I believe that we should keep our resources and not attack them, but I understand If we do and ill support it. This is also very similar to the Genocide that happened in Rwanda and when they dragged a American soldier through the streets and America was upset. Its going to be a pretty long war ahead of us.

  1. As mentioned before in the previous comment, it is most seen that Obama plans to declare war upon the issue of ISIS since all of his replies to the press had been to plan offensive forces against the terrorists. The president has this situation well into his hands and address it well with a three-stage plan to gather info and striking upon them. As the ISIS terrorists oppose violent acts directed to foreign countries like the US, it is a declaration of war to seize the problem before it get too out of hand and the president wants everyone in the country to be aware of that, that this is not a situation to take lightly. Many lives are already being lost by these people. Two journalists have already been decapitated and thousands of Iraqis have died already. So with that, troops and air forces set their sites upon the ISIS fighters with intention to defeat and protect many. In the end and overall, the president concludes that, despite gaining power from Syria and moving its way to Iraq, that ISIS isn't an immediate threat to the US and its people for now but over time, if ISIS continues at the rate it is going at, it may oppose more of an issue to us and transform into serious threat. In a way, this reminded me of the recent lessons in history, of how the British had dealt with the colonist in their moments of rebelling (in a non terrorist kind of way). The colonists came to the British as a minor threat at first as they did their own forms of revolting against His Majesty (ie, taring and feathering upon the tax collectors). But over time, they overpowered the British due to guerrilla warfare and alliances. Hopefully, the ISIS situation doesn't grow as big as the Revolution, as well as not having the same outcome.

  2. In regards to the beheading of the two US reporters, I feel that while publicly killing two innocent reporters is never justifiable under any circumstance, we have to understand that Obama has been giving the "go-ahead" for airstrikes in Iraq, and recently granted authorization for airstrikes in Syria as part of his plan to "degrade ISIS", as he puts it. While the brutal murders of our reporters weren't justifiable and certainly weren't necessary, I think many of us neglect to realize that the airstrikes against Iraq and Syria eliminate ISIS convoys and militants, but they also affect innocent people living in those areas as well. Ultimately, I feel that the US can no longer be portrayed as the victim in this ordeal, as damage has been done from both sides. However, I do also understand why Obama has chosen to take these actions, as failure to take action could result in another 9/11 sooner than we expect.

  3. We are facing a group in Iraq who is not only threatening us but also the Iraqis. I think it was a smart move for Obama to start sending troops over. They have beheaded two American reporters and have been killing hundreds of Iraqis. We need to take action before this group gets bigger. If we fail to take action, this group will get bigger and stronger. They are spreading fear and killing anyone who opposes of them. If we do not take action, Iraqis, religion groups, and people form ethnic backgrounds will be murdered. It is one thing to get a point across, but once they start murdering Americans then it becomes our problem. If we act now, we could get rid of this group, save hundreds of lives, and we could prevent from having a second terrorist attack in the U.S.

  4. In all regards to this crisis that is happening, I think that Obama is trying his best to keep the war under control.
