Obama to Permit Young Migrants to Remain in U.S.

Article

Years ago, illegal immigrants brought their young kids with them when they came to the U.S.. Many of them did not know they were illegal immigrants until they were older. Now, the government has to find a way to deal with them because they cannot deport them; these kids have been living in the U.S. for years. More than 800,000 kids cannot go to school, cannot get a driver license, and cannot get a job. So, Congress tried to pass the DREAM Act so these kids can have a worry free life. The DREAM Act failed to pass multiple times because some politicians wanted them to be deported and do not think that they belong in the U.S.. I believe that Congress should try harder to let the kids have the amnesty they deserve. I thought all man were created equal? That is what the Constitution said, right? Since they have been here for years and have done nothing wrong to hurt society, they should be able to be a citizen. Do you think young immigrants should be citizens of the U.S.? What do you think Congress should do to pass the DREAM Act?

  1. I feel that immigrants should recieve some type of reassurance from not only Obama but from the U.S maybe even people around the globe. I mean it's been too long where people have just ignored the different ethnic groups that make up the U.S. Do the politicians want to deport them simply because they are racist or are they so selfish that they want more room for their plantations, I mean we're in the 21st Century and so far history lacks to show one event in time where "men" were treated equally for atleast 10 years people. So why get rid of people that just want to excercise their Natural Rights Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness

  2. For those who are young immigrants should be citizens because everyone should have a chance to live a better life in the U.S. Man is suppose to be equal but they think "Man" is Caucasians , only them who are equal, no other races. They should have a chance not just those who already live in the U.S because its not fair and they just don't want more people to take up the space. Everyone who is an immigrant should also have Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness.

  3. Many of the immigrants were brought here by their parents at a very young age. By them being brought here so young they did not really have a say on whether or not they wanted to leave. In my opinion this "messed up" the immigrants child's life. Before Obama came up with this conclusion, many of them were in hiding because they were in fear of being deported. They could not live the American Dream, like many of the other legal immigrants. They probably would have had an extremely hard time in trying to support their families which also gives the children a harder living environment.

  5. These children should be granted citizenship because at the time their parents brought them to the U.S, and they did not know any better than to follow their parents. The U.S should not punish them for something that was out of their control. All children should be receiving an education and be able to apply for a job. If the U.S does not allow this act, then they are taking away the pursuit of happiness, and that is violating one of the natural rights we are granted.

  6. I think that the children should have US citizenship because after all, all men are created equal. They should have equal rights as the children who do have a US citizenship, so that we would not go against the constitution. Their families came to the US for a better lifestyle, yet they cannot get a license, go to school, or get a job. This violates the natural rights of liberty and the pursuit of happiness that everyone is granted at birth. In order to not go against the Constitution they should pass the DREAM Act to give all immigrant children their rights that they should have had a while ago.

  7. I believe that the children should have another chance to become a citizen and live without threat of being deported. These children were most likely taken to the U.S. by there parents or another person. At this time, the children were not able to speak for themselves on what they wanted. Although I believe this is the right thing to do, I can see the opposite side of the conversation. If we let the children have another shot for a citizenship, other immigrants will begin to complain and cause trouble on why they could not get the same chance. Dealing with this issue could prove harder then expected.

  8. The children should be granted citizenship for two reasons: they've lived in the country for their the majority of their lives, and they didn't come illegally of their own free will. Their parents went to the trouble of bringing them to America in hopes of providing a better life. Even if the DREAM act wasn't passed, it wouldn't really stop illegal immigration. It is something out of our control. All we can do now is accept the situation and make the best out of it. Yes, all people are considered "equal" in the Constitution; however, this goes back to sourcing. At the time the Constitution and Bill of Rights were made, only the white male was considered a true person. In debates like these, I believe the line between morality and justice must be drawn Ironic isn't it, that the two aren't one and the same? In terms of Congress, it seems that they are doing what they can. I suppose they could try to take more action, but there still needs to be approval from almost all sides.

  9. I believe that young immigrants should be able to become citizens because for one they have already lived here for several years. They have grown up knowing the American way and should be able to live it to the fullest extent. If anything by allowing immigrants citizenship they are most likely to benefit the U.S. by going to school and later moving on to greater things such as jobs that need doing. By withholding that right we not only take away their freedoms as an American citizen we also take away their future potential. I think congress should try harder to emphasize all the good that will come from allowing immigrants to become citizens, how they will benefit the U.S., and how they will stop tearing families apart. If congress can convince politicians to look at the positive aspects of this situations then maybe that just might be another step closer to getting the DREAM Act passed.

  10. I believe that the children immigrants should be allowed citizenship. As the article said, they were brought here by their parents when they were very young, so the only life that they know is their life in the US. They always say that children are the future of America, and these children can't be part of the future of America if they aren't citizens. I'm not sure how congress could pass the DREAM act if the republicans keep their racist opinions about the immigrants. This racism is ironic, granted in the Declaration of Independence it's stated that all men are created equal, and they have the natural rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Since these children have been here since they were very young, if they were to be deported back to the country they came from, they would be given a harder environment than they already know.

  11. I believe that young immigrants should be allowed citizenship in the United States. Countless numbers of young immigrants have proven that they deserve citizenship. I believe this decision made by Obama has given young immigrats a huge step towards citizneship in America. The productivity of 800,000 young working would benefit the United States greatly. I think the White House should do their best to convince the Republicans of the potential the DREAM Act holds.

  12. I think that granting the young immigrants amnesty is the right choice. Preventing people from immigrating is one thing, but forcing American-born children to leave the country is another. I think that the natural rights defined in the Constitution and Bill of Rights should include everybody the government has power over, and not just American citizens - in essence, the US government shouldn't treat anyone as lesser than a citizen.

  13. I personally think that these young kids should be able to remain in this country without punishment. They were brought here to have a better life. They are not criminals and they should not be treated like one. Since the children have been here for a long time I believe they should be given the same rights as other children that are going to school here. But at the same time it's difficult to have congress agree on that. By giving them the opportunity to go to school and work the country can be benefiting themselves too. We can't take away their dream of studying here to make their life better.

  14. I personally believe that the immigrants should not be allowed to satay in the U.S. free of worry from deportation. These kids all have parents, so by allowing the kids to stay wouldn't that mean the parents are in the clear as well. I just don't think this is right. These "illegal" immigrants will then be taking away precious jobs from those who have gone through the rigorous process of becoming a legal American. I no way shape or form is that fair. It does not matter how old you are. These kids should not be pitied on just because they are young. In the end they should have to go through the process of becoming a legal citizen just like everyone else has in the pest. By letting them stay it is like a slap in the face to those who actually did go through the process.

  15. I believe that the young illegal immigrants should be granted citizenship, because they have spent their whole lives in the united states, and belong in this country. Because of their age, they cannot be expected to understand the legal issues associated with coming to the united states illegally. However, I also believe that if the person is over 25, then they must go through the same citizenship process that all united states immigrants must go through. Because they are adults, they must be held accountable and must apply for citizenship.

  16. I believe that we should allow illegal immigrants children that have been born here to be allowed to stay because if we send them back, its almost like killing them. When illegal immigrants are sent back to their countries they usually have nothing so they go without food, without water, and without shelter. They come here to have a better opportunity for their life and be able to succeed in something. The kids were brought here by their parents and the kids weren't able to have the choice to go or stay. It was the parents choice and the kids were forced into it so they should be given the opportunity to live here in America.

  17. I think that illegal immigrants should be given an opportunity to become citizens of the United States. Even if illegal immigrants know what they are doing is wrong, the government should pass a law to give them a chance to apply for a citizenship. If the government let them do this, they could give them a certain amount of time to obtain a valid citizenship, or be forced to leave the country. That way, everyone has a fair chance to become a citizen. If the government did that, they would have an easier time determining if the country is overpopulated or exactly who is there. Also, it could help protect against terrorist attacks by identifying and inspecting each applicant with background checks to see if they are potentially dangerous or not.

  18. I strongly believe in the actions Obama took to let illegal immigrants who came to the country, as children are able to live in the country without having to fear of being deported. This now gives illegal immigrants the option to get jobs, drivers’ licenses, and go to school. Obama took measures into his own hands and did not consult Congress while making his decision and went against the Republicans wishes. It is rumored Obama only passed the law to gain votes from Latinos when he was running for his second term. However, past events have shown the United States to be prejudice towards certain races; it is time to show acceptance towards other races and create a more ethnically diverse country. Immigrants should be given the opportunity to become citizens of the United States.

  19. I also believe that illegal immigrants should be given the opportunity to become citizens of the U.S. Everyone who risks their lives in order to come to this country shall be granted the wish of becoming a citizen. That is the main reason immigrants come to this country, in order to have a better life for themselves and their children. Unfortunately there are people who don't agree with Obama's actions and say that he is abusing his power as a president, but at least we know that there are people in the government that follow the constitution on how it says that, "All men are created equal".

  20. I also believe that immigrant children should be granted amnesty from the united states, because they came here for a better life and i believe that they deserve that. Immigrants make up more that 20% of the united states population, and without them things would be very different an much more difficult, so we need to accept these immigrants as citizens.

  21. I feel that illegal immigrants that are born in America should have the opportunity or at least a greater one to gain citizenship. They deserve the right to live and be a citizen in our society. I think that Obama is doing the right thing for these people. This might be a very skeptical move by Obama, but if I was in his position I would feel obligated to do the same thing. We are giving more opportunities to these people. These children could be the future of our nation; therefore, they deserve a chance.

  22. I strongly believe these illegal immigrants that were born here should have the same rights as an american citizen. These children have come to America for a chance at bettering themselves and their future. I think Obama made a great decision to allow the immigrants to stay here because he is actually taking his time to look past where theu originated from and he is thinking of their future. All of our children need a shot at life because they are our future and they make up what lies ahead. Like anyone else they deserve the right to live and I think Obama made a great decision on allowing them to stay .

  23. I believe that all immigrants should have the opportunity to become citizens of the united states because if they come to this state is because they want a better future and life. Families come here also because they want their children to be someone in life. Like Max Mckevitt said immigrants make up more than 20% of the united states population. I believe that everyone should have rights.

  24. I think that once your in the US and are an immigrant that you should be allowed to become a citizen because they come to support either there selves or families. And also want a better life than maybe there parents did. And also as long as they cause no trouble and really stay focus either in school or work so they could become better they should have the right to remain in the United States.

  25. I believe that US should try harder to enable the DREAM act because its everyone should be able to have opportunities to do certain things. People should be equal especially the children being discriminated out. Everyone should at least be able to have an education. But, I do see where the other politicians are coming from. They don't want people experiencing the "American Dream" if they aren't a citizen. That's where they are wrong. Everyone should be treated equal. They should all be able to stay.

  26. I think that these children should be able to be a citizen of the US. These children have been here for the past couple of years and they have respected the US and called it home. I do not think it would be fair if they could not do things other citizens of the US can do because these kids did not even know their parents and them came to this country illegally. This is their home and it would not be fair of politicians to wish for them to be deported. I agree with aileen, and I believe that the DREAM act should be passed. Congress should expose the DREAM act and have citizens be more aware of what it is. They should also have more research on the background of these children to maybe change the minds of the politicians, to show that they are innocent.

  27. I personally feel that these children should be granted citizenship; they should not be deported. While young, their parents made the decision to bring them to the US for a better life. It would be unfair and cruel if these children got deported for something they could not control. These children should be receiving a good education and other resources the US has to offer. They should all have equal rights and be granted the same treatment every other American receives. The only reason that the DREAM act would fail is the possibility of racism from politicians. I think this racism is extremely hypocritical because we live in America, which is supposed to grant each citizen their Natural Rights: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. By not allowing these children, who have been living in America for a large portion of their life, to have the same rights, the US government is basically going against their own beliefs.

  28. I believe that these kids should not be able to stay in the United States since they did not have to go through a process to become a citizen. By passing the DREAM act would be rewarding criminals. People who illegally bring their baby or young kid to America will make their kid automatically a U.S. citizen? That is one of the reasons California has more students in a classroom than other states. I believe if one gets caught in America who is in our country illegally, should immediately be deported, regaurdless of the age. The parents took the risk of going to America and are incharge of their kids future. They knew what they were getting into when they came to the U.S. illegally. Now they have to pay the consiquence. Do you think if an American father snuck into Mexico and did the same thing, what would their government do? I doubt Mexico would let the American kid stay and live a normal equal life.

  29. Personally, I believe that these children entering the United States illegally is wrong, However, I have no real problem with the children who immigrated to the US before this act was passed, because they have been living there a decent amount of time and are (hopefully) integrated into our society, and I am completely fine with people legally coming to the US with the proper certifications and paperwork. Right now, if a parent from another country decides to smuggle their child into the US, they know full well what the consequences are, and it's no real excuse in this day in age especially when the media covers the US's immigration policies under watchful eye. Everyone here has a valid point about our policies on immigration, but I feel as though there's a reason as to why congress is a little hesitant to pass the DREAM act. If the US lets more immigrants into the country, then there is one issue that might affect the country drastically, and that is the original culture of the immigrants. A lot of people come to the US to find better opportunities, and a lot of those who come to the US strongly held onto their cultural beliefs, and as a result, they'll be reluctant to integrate with the US's culture. The US is trying to hold onto what we have left culturally so we don't end up like the United Kingdom, where there's pretty much segregation between the whites and the Muslims, and people are getting killed for not believing in Islam. Really though, the US is very hesitant to pass the DREAM act because of the fear of losing our culture, and undocumented people coming to our country illegally.

  30. Thank you everyone for your input. I believe that the immigrants should stay, because there are too many of them to deport. Even though they are illegal, they had no say to coming to America and starting a new life.

  31. I agree with what everyone is saying and that these kids deserve all the rights as an american. Personally i think its disturbing congress has not passed this act because the DREAM act is what’s morally right in my opinion. Plus it would not be fair to these children who have been living in the U.S for years to be forced into being deported. I also disagree with what Jason is saying we are not rewarding criminals. We are helping put down a better foundation for the future generations. Finally I believe the DREAM act is constitutional and is an act that should be passed by congress.
