Discrimination has obviously been a big issue throughout our countries history. Yet in my personal opinion I believe one of the ideas you should never discriminate against is Mans Best Friend. Unfortunately this is the case for lots of breed most commonly Pit Bulls. An ordinance was set forth in a village in Louisiana banning Pit Bulls and Rottweilers. This has not been the first time a town has put laws against specific breeds. It is also stated that the laws against specific breeds are a waste of public resources. Do you agree? If a ban were to put on (dogs) should it be put on a specific dog breed or all dogs in general? Would you apply that idea to groups of people? Such as if one group does something should everyone get punished?
I feel that this law should be all or nothing. Either allow all dogs, or none. The owner of these supposedly aggressive dogs has the power and means to prevent any potential damage. If something happens, it is their fault, and not that of the dogs, just for being a negatively viewed breed.
ReplyDeletePit Bulls are vicious dogs who kill more humans each year than any other breed. Personally, my little Border Collie/Dachshund has never bitten anyone and is a much better dog than a Pit Bull. I feel very safe around my dog, but I feel in danger when I am around an aggressive breed of dog (German Sheperd, Doberman Pinscher, Pit Bull, Rottweiler, etc.)
DeleteI feel that this law is very unfair and injustice. Many dogs are aggressive and violent because their owners are aggressive or violent towards them. Do you think these type of dogs are born vicious? No. If you were to ask any vicious dog's owner, I guarantee they were abusive or violent towards their dog. Not all dogs can be vicious. This law is referring to all dogs which is not a very good idea.
ReplyDeleteI think that they should not ban these overly aggressive dogs, but require a type of training that all gods must go through to be able to legally own the dog. Any dog can be aggressive; I have had a dog bite me before which was not a pit bull or rottweiler. A required training on all dogs could save many people who die of fatal dog attacks. I think singling out a couple type of dogs could start illegal trades which makes the rule ineffective, and generally during illegal trade, the animal would not be treated well . So I think it is better if the rule just required a "safety" training or something for all dogs.
ReplyDeleteI definitely believe there should be certain laws put on certain types of dog breeds like pit bulls. These dogs are statistically proven to be much more aggressive than any other breed of dog. I don't think that all dogs should be punished because of this certain group, but I do believe that there should be laws placed on the overly aggressive dogs such as pit bulls. Like Dhruv stated, I believe there should be a required class/training for the agressive dogs to take in order for them to be available for owners.
ReplyDeleteThey should not ban certain breeds of dogs. Any dog can be aggressive and any dog can be gentle and kind. It just depends on how you train a dog. I have seen and been in contact with many kinds of dogs and not once has a pit bull or rottweiler shown me any aggression. The only dogs that have shown me aggression are ones that are puppies. The dogs that show aggression are ones that have had a traumatic past or are not trained properly. There is no reason to ban a type of dog because there are cases of aggression from it. It is the owner's responsibility to train the dog properly and make sure it behaves.
ReplyDeleteI love all dogs, and I myself have always wanted a Pit Bull. I think a law shouldn't be passed against a specific dogs or and dogs at all. I think if it comes to a point where a certain dog does something to endanger the lives of others in the neighborhood, action should be taken on that person and their dog. Taking action against all dogs or all other dogs of the same breed as the dog who caused problems is unfair and not right.
ReplyDeleteAlthough pit bulls have statistically proven to have random aggressive bursts, I don't believe that a city should place a ban on any breeds. These dogs were specifically bred to be fighters, but now a days most of them share the mannerisms of other common dog breeds. We only hear about pit bull attacks on the news because they are so unusual, and in the end, banning pit bulls from one city will just move them to the next.
ReplyDeleteAlthough these are two aggressive dogs, no one is born evil. I think they probably come from bad owners, and I do not think it is right to discriminate because every dog has some good in them. I also think these dogs are given a bad reputation and people focus on the bad more than their good.
ReplyDeleteThese laws are analagous to what happened to human races in the past and although dogs are not human they are still living creatures that we grow bonds with. There does not seem to be any good reason as to why this law is in place besides the stereotyping of pitbulls as violent when there is no biological factor which makes them violent. We should treat pitbulls as human in a sense by thinking about what led to their stereotype and this would be how criminals would train them to fight against eachother for money or entertainment. These dogs that would escape would be bred to be violent. In reality, it is not the creatures fault, but our fault. Why should we punish them and their loving owners for others' wrongdoings.
