The threat from ISIS in Iraq and the surrounding nations, including Syria and Turkey, is real and legitimate. And even though the U.S. is war-weary after a decade long war in the region, working with allies, especially Arab nations close by, is vital to the success of this operation. The attempt by the Obama administration to obtain allies in this fight is different from how the U.S. fought the Vietnam War. In that case, we largely went it alone (unilaterally), without a coalition of like-minded countries. Maybe the Vietnam War was a failure due to our go-it-alone mentality then? Either way, I for one, am in agreement with military cooperation with allies before moving more militarily against ISIS. Without the help leaves the U.S. vulnerable to all sorts of negative consequences that we don't want to repeat. What do you think? Should we willing to lead this charge even if other countries don't ally with the U.S.? Or is international cooperation a necessary component?
I believe that the better decision would be to cooperate and ally with other countries in the area. It is always strategically smart to have allies in the area. They can deploy troops much more easily than the U.S. since the U.S. isn't in that continent. Also, the countries in the area may have important information on the terrain and the enemy.
ReplyDeleteBoth. As in, we should lead this charge against the ISIS, but only with the aid of surrounding counties in the area. If we go in blind against the ISIS, there could be a chance that the terrorists are with whoever is in the area; out of convincing or some other tie. With the aid of the surrounding countries, we wouldn't be taking a shot into the dark. They'd help, with locations, strategic military planning, knowing the area, etc. It's better to go in with help rather than going in alone, with the risk of everyone against you. We should take this charge against the ISIS, since they have been executing fellow American citizens, journalists to be specific.
ReplyDeleteIt is extremely crucial for the US to set up some system of allied before attempting to take down ISIS. If the US were going to take them down by themselves, I believe that it would take an immense amount of time, and also it will lead to numerous negative consequences. The US is in no position to handle any of these problems at this time. If we were to ally with some of the bordering countries, it could spare the US a large amount of money, as we wouldn't have to keep sending aircrafts over on a regular basis. This would be the case because the bordering countries would already have the necessary supplies to infiltrate the ISIS group. I am in complete agreement that the US should seek alliance for this task of taking down ISIS, I don't see us coming out with any positives if we don't.
